On behalf of the Association of School Boards in Amsterdam Secondary Education (OSVO), Dialogic investigated for the fifth consecutive year the satisfaction of those involved with the Amsterdam central lottery and matching, a component of the Amsterdam Core Procedure 2020. This central lottery is a method used to place students when transitioning to secondary school. The research was conducted among students in group 8 and their parents/guardians and involved a questionnaire about their experience with the lottery and matching. This year, 83% of students were satisfied with their placement in a secondary school, a 3% decrease compared to 2019. The procedure in 2020 remained unchanged from 2019. However, this year was different due to the COVID-19 measures, as there was no final test and the reconsideration phase could not take place. In this phase, students whose primary school advice was adjusted based on the test scores have the option to submit a new preferred list and participate in the lottery based on the remaining offers. Fortunately, the open days could still take place, allowing students and parents the opportunity to experience the atmosphere at the secondary school in person. Open days have been the most popular means for students to explore the school offerings for years. This year, 79% of students indicated a preference for obtaining information by attending open days. 71% of students stated that open days had helped 'a lot' in choosing a secondary school.
