Use of AI in governments

AI with policy.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is playing an increasingly significant role within governments, with the number of possible applications growing rapidly. There is much discussion about the opportunities AI presents for municipalities and other government organisations. At the same time, concerns exist regarding the risks associated with its deployment.

Dialogic helps government authorities take the step towards meaningful and safe deployment of AI.

Dialogic supports governments in exploring how AI can be effectively and responsibly utilised. We do this in the following ways:

  • Research on the use of AI within governments
  • Development of new AI applications with and within governments
  • Conducting and guiding impact assessments of the use of AI and algorithms

Research on the use of AI within governments

We investigate the AI being used, how the processes and responsibilities around it are organised, what the impact is, and what the risks are. We provide recommendations to better handle both the opportunities and risks of AI.

Development of new AI applications with and within governments

Dialogic develops AI applications with and within governments. Currently, we are working on the development of AI infrastructure to improve service provision to entrepreneurs in the Netherlands. This involves collaboration with, among others, the Ministries of Economic Affairs, Internal Affairs, RVO, KVK, the provinces, and other service providers.

Impact assessments of the use of AI and algorithms

In an impact assessment, we analyse the impact of AI and algorithms on human rights. We do this using the Human Rights & Algorithms Impact Assessment (IAMA) methodology, developed by the University of Utrecht in collaboration with Dialogic.

Socio-economic costs and benefits of AI

We assist governments in making decisions regarding investments in AI. Dialogic was closely involved in the AI Factory in Groningen, and similar projects in other regions. Additionally, we explored how the use of AI in SMEs can be enhanced.

Providing AI training

In our training sessions, we explain AI in an accessible manner. We work towards developing AI applications within the organisation. Over the past years, we have conducted training sessions in various municipalities and businesses.

We collaborate with training providers such as Amsterdam Data Academy, Axveco, Beeckesteijn Business School, and D-Data. Additionally, we are closely involved in communities where AI implementations are being developed, such as AIC4NL and JUC.

How we contribute

Making digital technology work smartly and responsibly for people.
