Measuring Impact on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with AI

Dialogic, on behalf of the Rotterdam School of Management, has developed an AI model capable of determining the contribution of academic publications to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Subsequently, this model is being utilised to enrich scientific publications with SDG metadata on a large scale. This enriched data is then used to create compelling data-driven visualisations and reports. The developed model boasts an accuracy of over 90% on unseen data. It is actively employed to assess RSM's (and Erasmus University's) contributions to the SDGs. This method is notably used to determine SDG contributions in the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) reports of RSM. Furthermore, the model is applied for benchmarking purposes among institutions, journals, and so forth. The source code of the developed model was made available in mid-2021 as open source under the GPLv3 license. We hope that by making the model open source, it will discover new applications and enhancements. Additionally, the open-source code enables third parties to gain insights into how the model operates. The code can be accessed through the repository on github.com. The SDG model has been featured in several publications: - AACSB Insights (2024). What’s Your Business School’s SDG Score? - Financial Times (2020). Weighing up business schools’ work on sustainability.
