Innovation brings many interesting, surprising, but also challenging processes, in which 'together' is the keyword. Especially large societal developments, such as the transition to a more sustainable and climate-resistant Netherlands and the pursuit of strategic autonomy, require a unique innovative role from different players. Having sufficient available knowledge to assume that role and to tackle major societal challenges is crucial. How to lay this foundation as solidly as possible, and how different players can best play their role in larger societal challenges, is what keeps me busy. During my studies in Innovation Sciences (University of Utrecht), I pursued my broad interests and had the opportunity to explore various (research) disciplines: I took a minor in mathematics, took a course on global medical challenges, and participated in an interdisciplinary honors program. The common thread throughout was my interest in developing and applying knowledge to relevant societal issues. This interest led me to graduate with a thesis on the role of local experiments in (national) mission-driven innovation policy. At Dialogic, I have been able to further develop these broad interests, while also bringing focus: I primarily research the fascinating world of research and science policy as a foundation for societal challenges, and concurrently work on implementing this knowledge in the energy transition. I delve into questions related to developing new technological opportunities and the role that governments can play in shaping the transition further. In addition to my work at Dialogic, I find it important to experience the challenges in practice and contribute my part. Therefore, I serve as a municipal councilor in my own hometown. In the coming years, through research, conversations, and collaboration, I aim to continue playing my role in current and future societal issues.
