For at house doctor must be able to be on site with the patient on time in acute situations, it is important that the patients of a house doctor do not live too far from the practice. In practice, however, people often remain registered with their current house doctor for a long time, even after moving houses. On behalf of Huisartsen Zuid-Kennemerland (HZK), Dialogic analyzed the distances between patients and practices for the practices affiliated with HZK. For each practice, we provided a map indicating the area where a certain percentage of registered patients (50%, 80%, etc.) reside in concentric circles. The figure below shows an example based on fictional data (the dots on the map represent general practices). In addition, we analyzed the total number of people living within the catchment area of a practice (an estimate based on CBS population data). We also determined the percentage of patients registered with the nearest practice compared to the total number of patients. The developed method can easily be replicated for other general practices and can be used to (continue to) monitor the distribution of patients among general practices. Due to the sensitive nature of the information, a method was developed in collaboration with HZK that requires as few sensitive data as possible (we only use the first four digits of a postal code, which presents some challenges in accurately estimating distances). Dialogic has not needed, and of course has not received, any data that could be traced back to individual patients. Additionally, a Data Privacy Impact Assessment (DPIA) was conducted beforehand.
Hvor langt bor pasientene fra legesenteret der de er registrert?
