Dialogic and CWTS | Leiden University have been selected to design a framework for the Dutch Open Science Monitor, commissioned by Open Science NL. Our partnership will accomplish two things:
Firstly, we will design a robust and context-specific framework that describes what is worth measuring in and according to Dutch science. Our philosophy is therefore: co-creation with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that monitoring focuses on what is deemed important, and not just on what data is relatively easily available.
Secondly, based on this framework, we will build a prototype dashboard that includes both quantitative and qualitative data. This will enable us to monitor whether current efforts are effective, and support the movement towards Open Science and a broader system of recognition and valuation.
In the Netherlands, Open Science advocates for more open and participative research practices. Aligned with the UNESCO recommendation on Open Science, the National Open Science Programme promotes open research practices that have an impact on both science and society.
Both CWTS and Dialogic support this broad vision of Open Science and recognise that truly understanding both the scope of open research practices and their transformative impact requires more than just counting open research products.
Therefore, while designing the framework, we will conduct extensive consultations through surveys, interviews, focus groups and town halls.
We will commence our project in the autumn.
