Dialogic evaluated a part of the Bsik programme Freeband Communication in March-April 2007. Freeband, with a total budget of EUR 61 million, is the largest public-private research programme in the Netherlands in the field of intelligent (tele)communication. The programme consists of 10 research projects involving 30 different organisations (businesses, universities, research institutions) and over 300 researchers. Freeband started in January 2004 and will continue until December 2008. As one of the 37 Bsik programmes, Freeband needs to be evaluated halfway through. This evaluation assesses the overall progress compared to the original plans and the scientific and non-scientific outcomes of the programme. Dialogic was commissioned to research the non-scientific outcomes of Freeband, focusing on: - Outcomes of the Freeband projects, their added value and the level of utilisation/valorisation; - The role of Freeband in establishing or maintaining a strong research community in the field of intelligent communication; - The effectiveness of the Freeband organisation and management. To achieve this, Dialogic conducted interviews with all participating organisations in Freeband and surveyed over 300 Freeband researchers. The findings will be integrated with other parts of the evaluation and presented to the Freeband financiers by the Freeband management in May 2007.
