What information about research funding should NWO provide?

The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) is the national Dutch science funding organisation for competitive funding of scientific research. NWO invests approximately one billion euros annually in curiosity-driven research, research focused on societal challenges, and in research infrastructure. NWO gathers information on programmes researchers can apply to, project proposals, and research output. However, much of this information is not always readily available to NWO's stakeholders. These stakeholders can be categorized into three types: 1) policymakers in research funding (such as the ministries of Education, Culture and Science and Economic Affairs and Climate), 2) researchers and institutions applying for research funding, 3) socially engaged parties interested in staying informed about developments in science (such as companies or the general public). Dialogic is conducting an exploration on behalf of NWO of the information needs of external stakeholders of NWO. This exploration is part of a broader programme at NWO in which the information management is being revised for more efficient and future-proof information processes. Central to the exploration is the question of what information NWO's stakeholders want, how they use this information, and in what form this information can be provided. The exploration has three objectives:

Identifying (potential) user groups
Identifying and prioritising information needs (such as current information on funding calls, call results like success rate, gender distribution, and a database of funded projects)
Determining feasibility and preferred format of information delivery (such as reports, dashboards, APIs, etc)

The exploration is expected to be completed before the summer.
