Semantic Multimedia Analysis Performed Cross-Language in Realtime
SEMACORE is a follow-up from a previous large European R&D proposal (DILINET). The project aims to measure language and opinions on the internet in (near) real-time, both in text and speech. Within the consortium, which includes Fraunhofer, CNRS, and the market research multinational Nielsen, Dialogic is responsible for the 'user-centric measurement' work package. Unlike in the other work packages, data is not collected through web crawlers but through measurements on end-users' devices. For desktop PCs, we use a browser extension that detects language. The panel consists of thousands of end-users from across Europe. For mobile devices, we use a local proxy server through which all outgoing internet traffic is routed. This measurement will be carried out in four countries characterised by multilingualism: Ireland (Gaelic, English), Luxembourg (French, German, Luxembourgish), Malta (English, Maltese), and the Netherlands (Dutch, English). The project has a duration of three years and will commence in the spring of 2013.
