Digital distance education has a long tradition and has been widely applied during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, there are knowledge gaps about when and for whom distance education is effective, and the possibilities have not been sufficiently explored in practice. As a result, potential benefits of digital distance education remain unknown and untapped for many schools. This particularly affects vulnerable students who cannot or do not want to attend school. It is precisely this target group that seems to benefit from digital distance education.
Commissioned by Kennisnet, Oberon, in collaboration with Dialogic and Serendips, conducted a literature review with the aim of providing insight into what is known about the use, conditions, and outcomes of digital distance education. In the report "The applicability of distance education," we present the main insights and make recommendations for policy, schools, and partnerships that (want to) use digital distance education.
