Broadband and the User is a biannual study on the personal internet use of the Dutch population. From a user perspective, insight is obtained into the changes occurring in internet usage. Since this is the fifth time the study is being conducted, changes can be consistently mapped over a period of ten years. Key questions in this fifth edition include: To what extent is there a shift towards mobile internet? What significance does the internet have for the user?

The research, commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, UPC and the Stimuleringsfonds voor de Pers (Media Fund), is now in its final phase. The survey has been completed by 1621 respondents and is currently being analyzed by the research team. The diary study has also been completed after 14 days. In the diary study, 30 internet users daily provided their opinions on an internet-related issue. These opinions will be incorporated into the report as stories behind the data obtained from the survey. The report will be published in April 2010.

The users' evening on March 18 also provides additional information on the survey findings. Through an interactive session with a small group of internet users, we will discuss two themes: 'media literacy' and 'paying for internet content'. There are still a few spots available for the interactive users' evening on March 18, 2010 in Utrecht (from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm).
