For a few weeks now, I have been working as an intern at Dialogic. Before starting my current master's program, I completed a bachelor's degree in Science and Innovation Management at Utrecht University, specializing in energy and materials. The focus on energy attracted me so much that I chose to pursue my current master's at Eindhoven University of Technology, studying Innovation Sciences with a focus on innovation and sustainability. As part of this master's program, I also spent a semester studying in South Africa last year. During this time, I learned a lot about the different culture in daily life and education. I also thoroughly enjoyed everything that this beautiful environment had to offer.photo leon

Besides my strong belief in the need for a more sustainable approach to the resources we use today, I have developed a keen interest in sustainability due to the many new technological possibilities for energy generation. While there has always been a variety of choices for energy production, the options have expanded significantly, partly due to sustainable goals and rising energy costs, leading to the emergence of new sustainable energy technologies.

My interest in this field grew as I encountered various theories on transition processes and system innovations during my master's, where new niches are strategically approached from a socio-technical perspective. Much of the research focuses on new technologies in new constructions, but I see more societal relevance in integrating sustainable energy options into existing housing stock. This is mainly because only a small amount of new construction is completed each year, resulting in slow progress. Additionally, there is often a heavy emphasis on the technical aspects of new energy technologies and insufficient attention given to the organizational and user aspects.

My research at Dialogic primarily focuses on developing a strategy towards a more sustainable future for existing neighborhoods. I will be using a case study, namely the Vondelparc neighborhood. Through this internship, I hope to gain more insight at Dialogic into the practical applications of sustainability and the societal and organizational aspects of innovations.
