Dialogic has been conducting research for almost 15 years and has traditionally been strong in combining qualitative and quantitative research. Traditionally, this involves ad-hoc text reports that are interspersed with a large amount of tables and graphs. The recently published study on Flemish Agricultural Research is a good example of this.

Lately, we have been seeing more of a shift towards continuous monitoring of developments on a particular topic. In practice, this means that the frequency of collecting and updating data increases significantly, and the ratio of text to data shifts. A logical solution is to offer so-called management dashboards. We are doing this for example in the Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (WTI2) project for the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science. More graphs can be found on the demo version of another site.

This shift goes far beyond just accessing information differently. It also implies a fundamentally different way of working.

To make this approach possible, we are fully engaged in setting up a coherent information architecture. We are developing a large number of software modules mostly in-house, which together form a flexible system allowing us to collect, process, analyze, and visualize data (semi-automatically) tailor-made. The core of the system (the blue modules) is already in full use at the moment, and we are constantly developing new plugins for data input and output.
