Large Bandwidth and the User is a biennial study on the internet use for private purposes by the Dutch. From a user perspective, insights are gained into the changes that are emerging in internet use. As this study is being conducted for the fifth time, changes can be consistently mapped over a period of ten years. In this fifth edition, important questions include: To what extent is there a shift towards mobile internet? What significance does the internet have for the user?

The study, commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, UPC, and the Stimuleringsfonds voor de Pers, is currently in its final phase. The survey has been completed by 1621 respondents and is currently being analyzed by the research team. The diary study has also been concluded after 14 days. In the diary study, 30 internet users daily expressed their opinions on an internet issue. These opinions will be incorporated into the report as stories behind the statistics from the survey. The report will be released in April 2010.

The user night on March 18 will also provide additional information on the survey results. During an interactive session with a small group of internet users, we will discuss two themes, namely 'media literacy' and 'paying for internet content'. There are still a few spots available for the interactive internet user night on March 18, 2010, in Utrecht (from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm).
