Commissioned by NWO, Dialogic conducted a midterm evaluation of the Joint Scientific Thematic Research Program (JSTP). JSTP is a collaborative research program between China and the Netherlands. On the Dutch side, KNAW and NWO are involved (with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science in the background), while on the Chinese side, it involves the ministries of science and technology (MoST), and education (MoE), as well as the academies for beta sciences (CAS) and social sciences (CASS). The aim of the program is to promote sustainable cooperation between researchers from both countries. This is achieved through funding joint research projects on a theme that changes annually and by funding more freely structured seminars.
To assess the functioning of the program, a survey was conducted among researchers, and Dialogic interviewed various project partners and other stakeholders. Approximately half of these conversations took place in Beijing, China, and were conducted by Dialogic's partner, Svend Remoe, an expert in the Chinese science and innovation system. Due to the international nature of the program, Dialogic delivered the final report in English.
The results of the midterm evaluation will be discussed later this year by the Chinese and Dutch partners. Until then, the research report is not publicly available.
